Description

Beetroot – Ruby Queen variety 1. Climate & Season Climate: Cool-season crop; prefers mild temperatures (15–25°C). Best Sowing Time: South India: June–February North India: September–January 2. Soil Requirements Soil Type: Well-drained sandy loam to loam soil. Soil pH: 6.0 – 7.5 Land Preparation: Plough 2–3 times and make fine tilth. Form ridges and furrows or raised beds. Apply well-decomposed FYM/compost @ 10–15 tons/acre before last ploughing. 3. Seed Rate Seed rate: 2–3 kg per acre 4. Seed Treatment (Optional but recommended) Treat with Trichoderma viride @ 10 g/kg of seed (for fungal protection). Or, soak seeds in water for 12 hours before sowing to enhance germination. 5. Sowing Method Spacing: Row to Row: 30 cm Plant to Plant: 10 cm Sowing depth: 1.5–2 cm Sowing method: Line sowing or dibbling on ridges and furrows. 6. Germination Days to germinate: 5–8 days (depending on temperature). 7. Irrigation Light irrigation immediately after sowing. Then irrigate every 5–7 days (avoid waterlogging). 8. Thinning When plants are 2–3 weeks old, retain one healthy seedling per spot. 9. Crop Duration Harvesting: 55–65 days after sowing. Yield: 80–100 quintals per acre (under good management). 10. Organic Nutrient Recommendation (per acre) Basal: FYM or compost – 10–15 tons Neem cake – 200 kg Biofertilizers: Azospirillum + Phosphobacteria – 2 kg each mixed with FYM and applied before sowing. Organic foliar sprays: Panchagavya or seaweed extract (3%) once every 15 days after 20 DAS.
